My first week off

vac

Last week was my first week off for the in-between camp and school session. Because Adiel was very backed up with customers (some of them waited for 2 weeks while he finished his “projects”) I was mainly on my own. I had a list of things I still wanted to do before the summer ended and I managed to do some of it. THe yucky weather (basically raining every day until Thursday) didn’t help much but I tried to do what I can.

Monday I met 5 friends all together! It was ‘Manhattan Day’. First I took the LIRR and met my friend MK who is in from Israel and works in MSG (right above Penn Station, where the train takes you to). I hadn’t seen her since her wedding (about a year) and it was so wonderful catching up and shmoozing for an hour or so. Then, I went to the Pizza Store on the Lower East Side, which IMHO, has the best pizza and calazones anywhere. I met Leah F and Toby there and of course spent the whole time talking about the video (Leah was there a couple of days so she really wanted to know details). After lunch, I walked Toby downtown to where she had Grand Jury Duty and I did a couple of errands (banking, a little shopping at Syms). I walked all the way down Broadway to get to the OU where I visited two of my friends, TB and Alexis. Then I took the A train home and Adiel picked me up from the station.

TUesday we had a Drs appointment that took a long time. It was pouring rain once again so there went any swimming ideas. We went out for lunch in Coffee Bar and I did my homecare kid for the 4th to last time.

Wednesday was one of those blah days where I stayed in bed and surfed and IMed for hours and then felt gross about doing nothing. It was also gross and rainy-ish. I really don’t like doing nothing altough it always sounds good in theory when I am over my head in work and barely sleeping. I also went to Rochies house and got a couple of new tichels and shmoozed a bunch with her. And I made dinner that night, woohoo! I also worked on the Price Shmooze.

Thursday the sun finally came out, and my friend LEah R picked me up and we drove to Atlantic beach. Her friend has a house there with a semi-private beach and it was loads of fun resting on the sand and playing in the water. Leah treated me and her precocious and adorable 4 year old son to sushi (he wanted avacado sushi) and we shmoozed and caught up on whats been happening. Then I did homecare and came home to a yummy dinner of crock-pot meat and potatoes!

Friday we had a cousin’s bris in Hillcrest. Mazel Tov Devorah and Michael (and Tzvi Aryeh). We woke up early (I hadn’t done that all week) and drove to the Bris where we saw some family and frienids. After a yummy, big breakfast we said good-bye and drove off to meet with the editor. We had about 45 minutes to spare and Adiel realized that we were right near the source mall! B”H I had the OshKosh bag to return, so we went in and returned the stuff just as the mall was opening (10 AM) and then I did some quick shopping. The meeting at the editor was fascinating and we got to see some of the recipes allready finished and it looks GREAT!!! We went home and rested and then packed to go to the LES.

Shabbos was so nice. We hadn’t been to Mommy for SHabbos for a couple of months and it was wonderful to be back. We picked up two of my nieces on the way and arrived there a couple of hours before SHabbos. We showed Mommy and Moshe the videos and pics of our last week and showered and got ready for Shabbos. Of course Mommy prepared her usual yummy foods and it was wonderful spending time and sinigng with and listening to divrei torah from our close family. I caught up on a lot of Mishpacha reading and Leah F came over to visit (we ended up taking her home with us). It’s always so nice to be back in my old home, and be able to bring my husband into the room that was mine for so many single years. :) . After Shabbos, we did a little shopping at Mommy’s (she is is good to us) and enjyed some mac and cheese for Melava Malka.

All in all a pretty restful and enjoyable week. I was hoping to make it into Brooklyn and visit a number of other friends but the weather and car situation just didn’t work out. Maybe this week — although I do still hope to stick in a little end-of-summer getaway for me and Adiel. I thought Boston or Connecticut but in the end it looks like itll be Lake George. I also start work again on Thursday :( but the kids aren’t coming till Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at my list and see what I’ve accomplished, what I hope to do this week and what is just not happening…

~ Meet with a whole bunch of friends who I haven’t seen in a while. Mainly in the city or Brooklyn, but I’m hoping one or two of them will come here. I literally have like 10 girls on my list, when i’m going to fit in seeing them all? And that includes one coming in from Israel hopefully.
Let’s see – I met with 6 friends, went to the city and Leah came here. Still want to meet with a bunch more this week of maybe over Labor Day Weekend.

~ Go shopping for summer clearance stuff. I think I’ll wait till I have off to go back to the outlet mall. I have to return some stuff from SR’s kids there anyway.
Check. Still have a little more shopping to do but returned the stuff and bought some stuff too.

~ Walk the Atlantic City bridge. Going to have to wait until it’s a little cooler though or maybe one evening.
Still hope to do that, not sure when and with whom.

~ Barbecue!! Can you believe we haven’t had a real one yet?! nuts.

~ Picnic for dinner. Somewhere in some park. We did it for Memorial Day, but I want to do another one!
Still haven’t done either….hopefully on our vacation!

~ There are still some people we haven’t been to for Shabbos or haven’t been in a while. I thought the summer was a good time. But I’m thinking of pushing off Washington heights until after the ’smushing on the FDR Drive on Friday’ season is over. We also want to have some company that we haven’t yet had or had in a while. The problem is I think the next few weeks we’re going to be stuck at home busy with the project until the last minute…

~ Visit a few different local friends on Shabbos that I never see and always say I’ll visit on those long summer shabbosim…
We’ve been home for shabbos besides for going to Mommy. I did see some friends and family who are local but not as many as I wanted. Its ok, noone is going anywhere.

~ Go swimming a few more times in the Darchei Pool. Maybe invite a friend to join?
Nope. Blame it on the rain.

~ Eat ice cream outside.
Nope. Vacation, maybe?

~ Go to the beach! Not just walk there but actually wade into the ocean and play in the sand. Funny how I always end up at beaches miles away when we have a beach just a few blocks away!
Yup, thanks Leah!

~ Catch a movie in Brynat Park or Brooklyn bridge park. Not sure if it’ll happen.
Don’t think its happening….and I’m Ok with that.

~ Write up the second edition of the Priceless Shmooze (family newspaper).
Hoping to finishh it today and mail it out tomorrow.

~ Maybe get a little 2-3 day getaway with Adiel?
Hopefully this week.

All in all not bad for the list, a little more than halfway accomplished and one more week to go.

PLEASE EVERYONE TAKE A MOMENT TO DAVEN FOR YEHUDA ARYEH BEN SHAINDEL. HE’S MY WONDERFUL UNCLE WHO JUST WENT THROUGH A COMPLICATED EMERGENCY HEART TRANSPLANT AND NEEDS OUR TEFILOS. THANK YOU.
