Geni

Family tree

Adiel’s family started this family thing called Geni. It’s pretty cool. You can put up your family tree with pictures and all, and then email relatives to put in their family tree. Sort of like facebook but it’s family and we’re all related. Imagine if every person in the whole world did this. We’d all be connected somehow! And it takes very short to set up which I like.

I’d recommend everyone to do this – www.geni.com

In other news, we decided to do something we wouldn’t get a chance to do for quite a while – outdoor barbecue :) . It was a little chilly, so we both wore sweatshirts. But the franks and burgers were hot and delicious and it was kind of fun to eat them with a little chill going on. Next week we’re changing the clock, and winter isn’t too far away…

Guests!

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Over the weekend we had a nice amount of guests — just the way we like it! Friday night we had my friend Elana over from work with her cousin and roommate. It was so much fun to have girls around and shmooze girlstuff. Somehow Adiel never seems to mind, either! On Shabbos we were the guests at the Strickmans who we haven’t seen for a while, that was lots of fun as well.

Sunday morning, Adiel woke up at the crack of dawn to go and pick up a very SPECIAL friend from the airport —

Eitan!! We haven’t seen Eitan since our Sheva Brachos, what with him going and living in LA and than spending a few months in Israel. It was great that the first familiar face he saw off of the plane was his good buddy, Adiel. They went out for breakfast and shmoozed business and I went to the Source Mall. Love that place but the lines were LOONY!

Then, for dinner, we found out that our friends YGX and Eli were going to be in the 5 Towns area for a vort, so we insisted they come in and join us for dinner.

Adiel made the most delicious spaghetti and meatballs YUM! I put together a salad and warmed up some shnitzel and potato kugel from Shabbos.

Here’s all of us enjoying the dinner (Adiel took the picture).

And here’s Adiel with their adorable baby Liba. (And donkey ears from Eitan).

And Uncle Eitan with the baby. (These men are going to make great fathers!)

Banana Chocolate cake for desert that Elana had made for us for Shabbos – nothing was left after the evening!

Back to normal

soup

After all the craziness of movie-making, year-starting and Yomim Tovim, things are slowly starting to get back to normal. We’re having some gals over Friday night, and hopefully eating by teh it’s been a while since we’ve actually hosted guests (besides for Mommy and Moshe for R”H), and it’ll be nice to have a nice, ordinary Shabbos.

Adiel’s been doing a lot of finalizing on the editing of the DVD –it’s annoying how all these little details become so time-consuming and cumbersome. Hopefully we’ll have some good stuff to share with you all soon. We are starting to look into marketing. It’s blah that everything is soooo expensive. Anyone want to sponsor an ad for us? :) .

Today Adiel was supposed to meet with the editor in East Meadow but it was POURING rain, and for those of you who aren’t in the 5-Towns, Far Rockaway area – the streets get flooded here! Hard to drive down. So about halfway through bumper-to-bumper traffic, he turned around and came home. Yay :) . And we had a nice chilled out night in our cozy, warm apartment with some fresh Shabbos chicken soup (and some leftover other stuff) for dinner.

Have a good Shabbos! We want to start having guests over or going away in the coming months for shabbos, so anyone that wants us or wants to come to us, let us know.

The Memoirs of Gluckel of Hameln

This book came to me highly recommended by Ethan who was trying to motivate me in the higher ways of thinking. It’s a diary of a religious jewish woman (Gluckel is properly pronounced Glickel) from the 1600’s. When I heard about it was shocked that I’ve never heard about it before. in fact we have next to nothing from that entire period in time. But to have a DIARY from a WOMAN from the 1600’s something that greatly intruiged me.

Most people I speak to have never even heard of the book. It doesn’t have the popularity that Anne Frank’s book has since it was kept in secret by the family who finally released it in 1976. But i think more and more people should familiarize themselves with this diary.

In the course of the book, you will learn that she was from one of the wealthier familes in Hameln. Because she lived in wealth and dealt alot with business, you won’t turn one page without her mentioning money. She writes about problems with shidduchim, pogroms, life, death, and even episodes with Shabbsai Tzvi!

Read this book and get a taste of true Jewish History.

Sukkos 5768

Wow! What a Yom Tov!

Esther & I were all over the place from the beginning of Sukkos until even today. What a fun, fun, fun and happy Sukkos. For the 1st 3 days we went to Brooklyn and stayed by her aunt and uncle (along with all other members of that side of the family) and ate out 3 of the 6 total meals by the Langsners and Esther’s good friend, AJ. I love davening in Kamenitz when i stay in that area. Everyone is doing well and it was all just a blast.

Chol Hamoed – Esther and I met up with Sara Rochel (my sis in law) and her whole family and went to a CORN MAZE. the stalks are like 8 feet tall and the path out is unknown. But if you walk around certain parts of the maze, there are clues to the maze which can help get you out. we all broke up into 3 teams and raced to get to the end. it was funny passing each other as we went through it. what was even funnier was that Sara Rochel’s team made it out in less than 25 minutes (but didnt have the majority of the clues – which is an objective in finishing the maze) because they turned the wrong way!  My team beat Esther’s by ONE minute. woo hoo! go Team Adiel!

Over the course of the few days of this chol hamoed we made sure to eat in a sukka (a neighbor had one set up around the corner). We also spent some time in the city checking out the site’s and trying to win some tickets to a Broadway show (which we didn’t).

The last 3 days we spent in the Lower East Side (LES). On the way to the lower east side, we remembered that we didn’t say tashlich yet. so as we were driving over the bridge we started to say it and finished saying it together once we got to the end.  pretty pathetic if you ask me – but the best we could do in the rush we were in.

Shimini Atzeres and Simchas Torah we’re great. As you all know – i have this love for the classic jewish feeling that is strongly apparent in the LES.  And it’s even stronger when the streets are closed off by the police and all the shuls come out and dance with the sifrei torah. what a site!

It was a solid holiday and i’m glad that we saw so many people over the course of the week. May this year bring lots more happiness to EVERYONE!!!
